Not because I want to be famous (after all, I am already...) but because I've had the scary Bhasteir Gorge experience too in the past, and would like to help others avoid it. And avoiding it really is dead simple: in descent from the G-B col, just head right and stick right on the "join" between the screes below and the cliff above.

In the other direction, this is also the fastest way, I reckon, from Sligachan to the top of Gillean-- straight up here and then left up Nicholson's Chimney.

And I recommend the other direction! Now you've done S to N, try the ridge N to S!

That way you also avoid the bogs on the way out to Gars Bheinn (sorry...)

Cheers

TimAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5126846029004543431.post-36215883354284509392010-09-28T06:38:20.897-07:002010-09-28T06:38:20.897-07:00Hi Tim and Coops,

It was a great day and since we had many people giving us advice I thought it was a good idea to pass on our experiences.

Cheers,

HenningRyan & Henninghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06174117775347227594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5126846029004543431.post-7749761569387505342010-09-27T12:29:39.097-07:002010-09-27T12:29:39.097-07:00Excellent write up - useful information too. Come down from the Gillean/ Am Bhasteir col and keep hard right, right at the transition from screes to cliff at the foot of the N ridge of Gillean. Descend this way for 20 minutes and you'll find yourself dropping onto an easy grassy rib. Follow the rib down and there's a path that joins the Tourist Path after another 15 minutes.

But too late now.... :-)

Main thing is-- well done!

--Tim C.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
